Prof. Dr. Oktay Ergene

After graduating from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Oktay Ergene completed his specialty training in Internal Medicine at the same university and his specialty training in Cardiology at Koşuyolu Heart Training and Research Hospital. Throughout his academic career, he served at Dokuz Eylül University, Süleyman Demirel University and İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. In addition to his many years of clinical, academic and educational experience in the field of cardiology, he assumed various academic and administrative responsibilities. He served as Head of the Department of Cardiology at Dokuz Eylül University between 2019 and 2022, and as Dean of Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine between 2020 and 2022. He retired from Dokuz Eylül University in 2024.
Prof. Dr. Ergene, whose principal academic and clinical interests are interventional cardiology and echocardiography, has taken an active role throughout his career in clinical studies on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, as well as in medical education and scientific research activities. He has participated as a speaker and instructor in national and international scientific meetings; he has held editorial positions at numerous cardiology journals and has contributed to more than 300 scientific publications.
Prof. Dr. Ergene served for many years in various administrative positions within the Turkish Society of Cardiology, including as its president. A member of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Ergene has also contributed to educational activities within the European Society of Cardiology and has undertaken various scientific and professional roles in national and international cardiology organizations. He currently continues to serve on the boards of directors of the Cardiovascular Academy Society and the Association for Combating and Raising Awareness of Cardiovascular Diseases.
