Arş. Gör. Dr. Burcu Özkan

Burcu Özkan, PhD, is a research assistant in the Department of Public Health at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. She conducts academic research in the fields of public health and tobacco control.

Her research focuses on the epidemiological evaluation of tobacco use trends, the factors influencing smoking cessation behaviors, and changes in household expenditure on tobacco products. She has also contributed to studies examining the characteristics of individuals who have attempted to quit smoking and the use of research findings to inform tobacco control policies and improve smoking cessation services.

More recently, she has taken part in research exploring the conceptual feasibility of artificial intelligence–supported clinical decision support systems for use in smoking cessation clinics. Through her work with the Smoking and Cessation Behaviors Academy, Burcu Özkan contributes to monitoring tobacco use, improving the understanding of smoking cessation behaviors, and developing evidence-based interventions.
