Common, preventable risk factors underlie non-communicable diseases. These factors include tobacco addiction, inactivity, unhealthy diet and harmful use of alcohol. These behaviors lead to four important metabolic/physiological changes. These are high blood pressure, overweight/obesity, hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. The world's leading non-communicable disease risk factor for related deaths is high blood pressure (13% of deaths worldwide), followed by tobacco use (9%), high blood sugar (6%), inactivity (6%) and overweight and obesity (5%).
Obesity is known to cause diseases such as diabetes, elevated blood lipids, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disorders, sleep apnea and some cancers and shortens life expectancy. Today, it is reported that nutrition-related chronic diseases are the main cause of 60% of deaths and 46% of diseases. Considering that one third of the total deaths in the world are due to cardiovascular diseases closely related to nutrition, the importance of the issue is better understood.
Healthy nutrition is necessary for a healthy life. A healthy and varied diet can help maintain body weight and health and thus prevent diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and bone weakening (osteoporosis).
For these reasons, our association has taken action to increase nutritional awareness in the community to combat chronic non-communicable diseases. With the Raising Nutrition Standards Project, which we initiated for the proper consumption of fibrous foods, it is aimed to prepare viral, impressive and non-didactic awareness-raising videos on this subject and to effectively deliver these videos to the target audience.
