Prof. Dr. Oktay Ergene graduated from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the same university, followed by his Cardiology fellowship at Koşuyolu Heart Training and Research Hospital. Throughout his academic career, he held positions at Dokuz Eylül University, Süleyman Demirel University, and İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. In addition to his extensive clinical, academic, and teaching experience in cardiology, he assumed various academic and administrative responsibilities. He served as Head of the Department of Cardiology at Dokuz Eylül University from 2019 to 2022 and as Dean of Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine from 2020 to 2022. He retired from Dokuz Eylül University in 2024.
His primary academic and clinical interests include interventional cardiology and echocardiography. Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Ergene has been actively involved in clinical practice, medical education, and scientific research in the field of cardiovascular diseases. He has participated in numerous national and international scientific meetings as a speaker and educator, served in editorial roles for several cardiology journals, and contributed to more than 300 scientific publications.
Prof. Dr. Ergene has held various leadership positions within the Turkish Society of Cardiology over many years, including serving as its President. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and has contributed to educational activities within the European Society of Cardiology as well as to various national and international professional organizations in the field of cardiology. He currently serves on the boards of the Society of Cardiovascular Academy and the Society of Prevention and Awareness of Cardiovascular Diseases.
